Brutus Monroe Team Hop: Monochrome

Hey friends!

It’s time for another team hop with the Brutus Monroe Inspiration Team. It’s the very first hop of 2019, so I’m excited to see what everyone created for this week’s theme: Monochrome. Monochrome themes feature only one color in different shades. This really pushes you to think outside the box for creating projects!

For my card, I decided to create my own background using a single butterfly image from the Butterfly Sentiments 2.0 stamp set. This technique works well with images that have a lot of solid space with a decent amount of detail. Outline stamps don’t work well for this technique. I used three shades of red/pink from the Surface Ink collection. I used Honeysuckle, Marsala, and Rouge. To create the background, I started with my lightest color and stamped a few butterflies in a random pattern. Then, I continued this pattern with my middle color, and then finally my darkest color.

I matted my background panel with a piece of Marsala card stock. I decided I also wanted to match my card base, so I used the Honeysuckle ink to smear the edges of my card base. This gives you a perfect color match even if you don’t have a coordinating piece of card stock. Pretty cool!

Next, I added a sentiment! I used a piece of Marsala card stock and my Mini MISTI to stamp this gorgeous sentiment from Super Sentimental. I used embossing ink and coated it with Rainbow Sparkle embossing powder. This gave my sentiment a little sparkle, but kept it perfectly matched with my coordinating color palette.

I popped my sentiment up on the Brutus Monroe foam tape and then used a piece of vellum as a mat. I adhered this to my card front and then added a few coordinating sequins for a bit of sparkle. I finished my card off by adding a coat of Wink of Stella to my darkest colored butterflies. Pretty!

Now let’s hop along and see what the rest of the team came up with for todays hop!
