It’s time for another Wednesday hop with the Inspiration Team for Brutus Monroe. I am totally thrilled for this week’s theme: Shake It Up. Today we’re showcasing all things shaker cards – hooray!
I actually made three projects for this hop – but the best part is that I made all three using a single ink blended background. I did the emboss resist technique using Sweadda Weadda and Distress Oxides in Faded Jeans, Peacock Feathers, and Wilted Violet. You guys know how I love to stretch my supplies and don’t like to throw anything out so this was perfect!
For my first project, I used two of the ornament dies featured in the Christmas Card Kit to create an ornament shaped frame. I used washi tape to hold them together while I die cut them from my ink blended panel and several times from some purple foam. I also cut one piece from white cardstock, but I only used the larger ornament die for this one (this serves as the back of my project). I did a little ink blending and splattering on my background piece and then layered up all of my frames. Between the top piece of foam and my ink blended frame piece, I added a layer of clear plastic (from old packaging). This serves as the window for my shaker. I die cut the Be Merry SVG in glitterstock, adhered it to my background, filled the area with shaker elements, and glued it all together. To finish it off I tied some pretty twine up top and added a bow.
My second project used the main piece of the ink blended panel. This piece had a large ornament shape cut from the center. This was the perfect start to a shaker card. I used the amazing shaker pouch from Brutus Monroe and filled it up with a ton of shaker bits. I love that you can just fill it up and seal it without having to worry about foam tape or anything! It also has adhesive on the entire back so you can stick it right to your card. It’s SO easy! I adhered the pouch to my card and adhered the ink blended panel on top. I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment, ‘Stay cool’ from Sprinkled With Love on black cardstock. I added a few pretty sequins for a finishing touch.
For my final project, I made a clean and simple card using the smallest ornament from the ink blended panel. I mounted a piece of white cardstock on a white card base and adhered my ornament to the front. I stamped Merry Christmas and the adorable Santa hat with Raven Detail Ink. I colored the hat with Copic markers and then tied a cute little bit of twine on the ornament. I also added sequins in purple and clear to finish everything off.
I am so happy I was able to get three projects out of a single ink blended background. I totally love being able to use up everything I’ve made without having to store scraps. I hope this hop inspires you to create something as well! Here’s the links for the rest of the team – be sure to hop along!
