Heffy Friends Blog Hop

Hey friends!

I’m so thrilled to be joining Heffy Doodle today for the Heffy Friends Blog Hop. We are showcasing products from the latest release and I couldn’t love them more! There’s a giveaway, too, so be sure to hop along for your chance to win!

For my card, I decided to feature the Otter Side stamp set and mix in a few products from previous releases. I love how versatile this line is – I’m always able to mix and match the sets to create the cutest combinations. I started off with the Candy Shop stencil and a few Distress Oxide Inks. I used Cracked Pistachio, Faded Jeans, and Chipped Sapphire. I blended the whole panel with Cracked Pistachio, then layered the stencil on top and blended on the Faded Jeans. Finally, I shifted the stencil just a bit and added the Chipped Sapphire. After my ink blending was done, I stamped out a few of the adorable otters and the rock from Otter Side and colored them with Spectrum Noir Classique Alcohol Markers. I cut these out with a pair of sharp scissors, but you can definitely use the coordinating dies if you have them.

I have created a video tutorial showing how I made this card. If you’d like to check it out, you can watch it below or HERE on YouTube.

Next, I decided to use the ‘Hello’ standalone die – I just love this adorable script font. I cut the word from some pretty blue glitter cardstock and then cut another from a piece of blue craft foam. I layered the glitter cardstock right on top of the foam for a bit of dimension on my card. I also created my own shadow for the word by tracing the metal die onto a piece of black cardstock with pencil. I fussy cut my outline and layered it underneath the ‘hello.’ This gives a perfect little shadow behind the word and helps it stand out against the busy background.

I knew I wanted to use the ‘hello from the otter side’ sentiment for my project, so I grabbed some black cardstock and stamped the sentiment in clear embossing ink with my Mini MISTI. Be sure to always treat your cardstock with anti-static powder before stamping with your embossing ink – this will help prevent the embossing powder from sticking where you don’t want it. I poured on the white embossing powder and tapped off the excess, then melted the embossing powder with my heat tool. I trimmed the sentiment down and snipped off the ‘hello’ since I already had that part from the script die.

I folded a white A2 sized card base (4.25″x5.5″) and adhered a piece of grey cardstock cut to 4″x5.25″ on top. I cut my ink blended panel with one of the stitched oval dies from Ovally Excited and adhered that to my card base with foam tape. I popped the sentiment up on foam tape as well and adhered all of the adorable otters around the edges of the oval. To finish off my card, I added a few clear acrylic bubbles above one of the otters’ heads. I thought this was a super cute way to give the card a more underwater vibe. I love how it turned out!

Wow..WOW what an otterly cute card. I love it. The colours you have used are gentle and gorgeous on the striped background. Really love the way you managed to use the hello die to make the black background for the word…just genius, this is why I love blog hops, not just for the inspiration but learning so many more things too. Thank you for being in the hop and giving me (and many more) inspiration.
