Today, I’m sharing my project from my most recent course over at Altenew Academy. This course is called With a Twist and it’s taught by Therese Calvird. In this course, you learn about different ways to put a fun twist on your projects and step away from the ordinary projects we tend to lean on.
For my project, I decided to take two elements from the class and put them to work. The first was interesting or different color combinations and another was different shaped cards. I hardly ever make cards that are not A2, so this was definitely a step outside my comfort zone. I also chose to use shades of brown for my floral images and I actually love the way they look!
To start things off, I cut a card base to 4.25in x 8.5in. When folded in half, this gave me a square card base of 4.25in. I cut another piece of white card stock down to 4in x 4in and used this for my card front.
I chose the new Bloom & Bud stamp set for my card. I actually got this one while I was at Creativation when I had the chance to take the Altenew Card Workshop. It was wonderful! I chose three shades of brown for the first three layering images – and then (I even surprised myself!) I used black for the final detail layer. Talk about being brave LOL!
I adhered my card front to the card base and then got to work on my sentiment. I chose the ‘hello’ sentiment from ‘Mini Hello.’ I used embossing ink on black card stock and heat embossed it in white embossing powder. I fussy cut the sentiment so that the top looked like a die cut, but I left the bottom and sides in tact so that I got a cool ‘strip’ effect. I thought it helped break up the card nicely.
I adhered my sentiment to the card front and added a few clear sequins for a bit of sparkle. I love how simple and elegant this card is and I especially love the unexpected color combination. This class really challenged me to try things I wouldn’t have normally done and I’m thrilled with the results.
