It’s Wednesday again, which means it’s time for another Brutus Monroe Inspiration Team blog hop! This week’s theme is ATCs (Artist Trading Cards). ATCs are essentially mini cards – they measure just 2.5in x 3.5in. They’re almost like baseball trading cards for card makers. People swap them and collect them – or just make them for fun!
For my project, I got WAY outside my comfort zone and made a grungy mixed media sort of ATC. This is not my normal style, so it was a difficult process for me lol! I started off with a white piece of cardstock and used the Hit The Brick background stamp with Suede Ink. Next, I used the Library Background Stamp and Maple ink to add a little bit of random color to my card stock.
Here’s where things got crazy. I tried to use a stencil and some Gargoyle ink to apply another layer of color in a few places, but I made a huge blog of black on my background and I thought my project was ruined. But you know me – I couldn’t throw it away! So, I grabbed one of the rounded corner rectangle dies and stamped ‘hello’ from Sharon’s Script on it. I use that to cover up the biggest oopsie on my card and kept going.
I grabbed the ‘I love you’ sentiment from Botanical Banners and popped it up on foam for some dimension. I already had these butterflies cut, so I used them as well. They’re heat embossed with Pink Champagne embossing powder on vellum. So pretty!
I adhered everything to my card and then inked the edges with my Raven Detail Ink. To finish it off, I used some adhesive pearls. What do you think? Did I miss the mark on the grungy mixed media look or did I nail it?
I also created two ‘bonus’ ATCs as I tried to find my style. Check them out below and let me know in the comments which one is your favorite!
Let’s see what the rest of the team has in store for you. Here are the links to their blogs. Be sure to leave them some comment love!
JESS<—you are here!
Hugs and love to you all,
