Altenew Educator Certification Program – Beyond Basic Backgrounds

You guys!

I’m so excited to tell you that I’ve completed Level 1 of the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP) and pass my challenge as well! I am now officially in Level 2 (check out my pretty new blog badge on the sidebar!). Hooray!

You can check out my process HERE or below!

The first course for Level 2 is ‘Beyond Basic Backgrounds.’ In this course, you will learn ways to step up your background game and create stunning cards featuring Altenew products. I was inspired by one of the lessons where Lydia used a cover die to create a stencil and I just knew I had to try it. Lets’ take a look at how my project came together!

To get started, I did some simple ink blending with Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Squeezed Lemonade, and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxides. I absolutely love these colors together. They’re so bright and cheerful! After I was done with my blending, I used the splatter brush to flick on some drops of water.

I set my background aside to dry and grabbed my cover die. This one is called ‘Shutter Cover Die’ and it’s amazing! I see a whole lot of uses for this one in my future. Originally, I intended to use this piece as a stencil to spread embossing paste through. But once I cut it and laid it on top of my card, I loved it too much to part with it. So, I just sprayed some adhesive on the back and stuck it right to my card base! It’s so cool when you stumble upon a design you love this way.

I grabbed two stamp sets to build my own sentiment. I used ‘simply amazing’ from the More Than Words set. I also used just part of a sentiment from Halftone Everything to get my ‘you are.’ I stamped these with embossing ink on black card stock and used Alabaster Embossing Ink to heat set them. I fussy cut them and mounted them on foam for some fun dimension.

To finish off my card, I added a whole bunch of clear sequins in various sizes. I love how the sequins tied the two parts of my sentiment together and added a beautiful sparkle without taking away from my background. You know how I love my sparkle!

If you’d like to check out this class, you can find it HERE. I hope this inspires you to create something today!

Hugs and love to you all,

This turned out really pretty, Jess! I think it was a good call adhering that cover die-cut, looks great and creates interest. I love the sentiments heat embossed on black, really gives the card an oomph.
