Brutus Monroe – Dragonfly Garden + Catching Dreams

Hey friends!

I’m so excited to share this card with you today. I was totally inspired by a technique I saw in an Altenew video by May Park. You can watch her tutorial HERE on YouTube. This was a ‘must try’ for me and I’m so glad I did! I made a bonus card during a live stream on YouTube if you’d like to check it out HERE:

To get started, I grabbed a piece of the light purple card stock from the Lucky You inspiration box and trimmed it down to 4in x 5.25in. I used Aubergine Surface Ink to blend in from the edges, leaving an oval shape empty in the middle. I came in around the edges with Plum Surface Ink as well to darken them up a bit.

I selected a solid leaf pattern from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set. I only used this single image for my enter framed stamping pattern. I repeatedly stamped the leaf/branch image around the edges of my card stock, leaving that same oval area empty in the center of my card.

I picked a sentiment from the Catching Dreams stamp set and used my Mini MISTI to apply embossing ink to my card front. I used Gilded embossing powder and my heat tool to melt the powder. I love the way the purple and gold look together. It’s magical!

I mounted my card front of a piece of foam to make it more sturdy and give the card a little dimension, then mounted my card front to a white card base. I used a white gel pen to add a ton of little dots in the foliage for a pretty accent. It looks like a bunch of fireflies in the bushes at twilight. I am totally enamored by this technique!

Here’s a bonus card I made featuring the same techniques. I used the same sentiment stamp, but changed things up with the color. I used Botanical Banners for the off the edge stamping.

I hope you’ll give this a try. If you do, be sure to share it with us in the Brutus Monroe Fan Club page on Facebook or on social media using #brutusmonroe.

Hugs and love to you all,
