Brutus Monroe Team Hop: Thank You Cards

Hey y’all!

Can you believe it’s our very last team hop of 2018? This year has flown by and it’s been such a whirlwind! This week the team is sharing thank you cards – perfect for any occasion or for those gifts you’ve received for the holidays.

For my card, I was super inspired by a tutorial recently released by Dawn (HERE). The tutorial was for creating a ship lap look on your cards. I decided to make mine a little different than what was shown in the tutorial and I’m so happy with the way it turned out.

To get started, I scored my paper every 1 inch using my Fiskars trimmer and a bone folder. I used the ruler from my MISTI Creative Corners along with Suede Surface Ink to create lines of color in the scored indents. By only touching one edge of my ink to the paper, I was able to transfer on thinner lines of color. I repeated this with Maple Surface Ink to get a cool variation in my colors.

Next, I used a stencil brush to add Suede and Maple Surface Inks to my background. This took my plain white cardstock and transformed it into a faux wood background. I also inked around the edges with the Maple ink and did a swiping motion at the edges to give it more of a distressed wood look.

I used Alabaster embossing powder and embossing ink to create my butterflies on vellum and I also heat embossed my sentiment ‘thankful for you’ from Super Sentimental. I thought this sentiment was a perfect fit for this elegant and rustic card. I stamped and colored the floral image from Botanical Banners using Copic markers and then fussy cut it to add to my card front.

I mounted everything on to a white A2 card base and added a few clear sequins for some subtle sparkle. For the finishing touch, I added a light coat of clear Wink of Stella to my flowers.

I hope you love this last team hop of 2018 – let’s see what everyone else created to share with you.
