Today I’m stepping WAY outside my comfort zone and sharing a card I created for the My Favorite Things 2018 Card Design Superstar contest. I can’t even believe I’m sharing something for this, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to try! Yikes!
There are three categories you can enter your card into – Clean & Simple Genius, Coloring Virtuoso, and Innovation Master. For today’s card, I’m choosing the Clean & Simple Genius category. Here we go!
To start off my card, I decided to go with a galaxy sky background. I used Distress Inks in Faded Jeans, Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves, Mustard Seed, and Black Soot to bring my sky to life. Once I had my colors blending, I spritzed and flicked a little water using the Ranger Mister and Ranger Splatter Brush. Once everything was dry, I used some white acrylic paint and the Splatter Brush to flick on some white for the stars. I love the effect this gives. I also sprayed on some Glitter Dust to make the background really sparkle.
Next, I cut a white piece of cardstock to size and then used one of the Inside Out Stitched Circle STAX dies to cut a hole in my card front. I layered the plain white carstock over my ink blended background and now I have a focus ink blended area with out having to do any masking! Hooray!
I decided to get a little creative with my Magical Dragons stamp set. The dragon I used is traditionally used as a ‘flying’ dragon, so his belly points downward. I wanted to change things up, so I turned him on his side and made it seem like he was sitting on his bottom and looking up at the night sky. I think he looks so cute like this! I colored the dragon with copic markers and then used the coordinating dies to cut him out. I adhered him to my card front and added a few gel pen accents in white.
To finish off the card, I grabbed one of my new sets, ‘Boss Babe,’ and chose the ‘reach for the stars’ sentiment. It fit so perfectly with this card. I stamped it with Versafine Onyx Black ink using my Mini MISTI and that’s it! That finished off the card.
I hope you head over to the MFT blog and check out all of the amazing talent pouring in for this contest. There are some truly phenomenal cards being shared!
Hugs and love to you all,
