Hello to all of you in Craft Land!
I have been totally MIA for a good long while now on my blog. If you follow my other social media accounts, you know what’s been going on – but I’ll share a littler here as well, so you’re not left out of the loop.
On April 4th, I went in for my regularly scheduled anatomy scan for our pregnancy. I was 20 weeks that day. We got the worst news a parent can – which was that our sweet boy no longer had a heartbeat. We were devastated and the next few days were a whirlwind of grief and stress. I delivered our son (our 3rd boy) on 4/6 and, luckily, we were able to find out what happened. He had his umbilical cord wrapped tightly 3 times around his neck and had a tight knot (they call this a ‘true knot’) in the cord. The doctors told us it was just a ‘freak accident’ and there’s no way we could have known or prevented it. Regardless, our lives have been tough since then. So, I hope you’ll forgive my long absence. We are still trying to put things back together as best we can, but I’m hoping to be back and posting regularly again.
Now that the sad part is out of the way – I’m excited to share a new card I made using products from a few different companies. The main focus of my card is this fun beer mug that I made from a Spellbinders die – can you believe it!? This die is gorgeous, and would be perfect for floral cards and so many elegant styles, BUT I looked at it and immediately thought it reminded me of a mug of beer – I’m crazy, I know! To make it work, I cut the bottom ‘swirly’ portion off and capped it with some yellow washi tape.
I also hand drew and cut out some extra cardstock and attached it to my mug as a handle. I layered the die cut cardstock over another piece of cardstock that I traced with the diecut and then ink blended to make it yellowish. I used Wild Honey and Scattered Straw Distress Inks with my foam blending tool to do this. I love how the swirly part up top looks like the foam on the top of a freshly poured beer!
I snagged two stamp sets for my sentiment – ‘The Man’ from Avery Elle and ‘Adult Beverages Sayings’ from Simon Says Stamp. I used my Mini MISTI to get them perfectly lined up and stamped them with VersaMark ink. I used Ranger’s white embossing powder and heat set it. I raised the sentiment on foam tape for a little pop of dimension.
I used Hero Arts’ Chalkboard Black ink to distress the edges of my card front a little bit and then tied a cute little bit of black and white baker’s twine up top to finish off my card.
What do you think? Do you ever get creative with your dies like this? Sometimes I just see something totally out of the box and have to test it out!
Big hugs to you all and thanks for reading along today.
